Pianist Christopher O’Riley brings his transcriptions of music by famed alt-rock
band Radiohead to Zellerbach Hall in a program featuring music from O’Riley’s
Sony Classical release, True Love Waits. The September 17 program includes
the album’s title track, Everything in its Right Place, Knives Out, Black Star, Karma
Police, Let Down, Airbag, Subterranean Homesick Alien, Thinking About You,
Exit Music (For a Film), You, Bulletproof, Fake Plastic Trees, I Can’t, and Motion
Picture Soundtrack.

Tickets: $18.00, $24.00 and $28.00, available to Cal Performances donors of $250.00 and above through July 15; after July 15, tickets will be offered to 2003/04 season subscribers through July 25. Single tickets go on sale to the general public on August 2nd. I've been a fan for years, and once again this year I find myself gearing up for a roadtrip to see Radiohead play because they won't return to Michigan for a show. They only played here once, in 1997. Many other major (and minor) acts routinely stop in Detroit for a show. I'm not sure why RH has never returned, but I am hoping they will give us a second chance.

I have just published a petition on petitiononline.com requesting that the band consider playing Michigan again in the future. I realize this will have little to no effect for this years North American tour, but I'd like to capitalize on the excitement being generated now for the upcoming shows and start collecting signatures now. Eventually if I get enough signatures, I will try to bring the petition to the attention of W.A.S.T.E.. Normally I would never try something like this, but I really believe that if the fansites pick it up and support it, it can be REALLY successful, and who knows, it may even bring about the desired outcome.

The bands have long been mutual admirers of each other's work. The Lips played the Pyramid Stage immediately before Radiohead at Glastonbury last month (June 28) and are now strongly tipped to support Thom Yorke and co. on their forthcoming US tour.

Coyne admitted: We're talking about doing a couple of things. I know there is a sort of experimental TV show that comes out of Chicago that we're both scheduled to do. The show typically pairs people together of the same ilk. They've been wanting to get us up there for a while, but they haven't found anybody that seemed worthy of a show.

Radiohead are talking about doing it, so we could start there around about the middle of September.

He added: If I could get my way, we'd get right in there and do something with them. If we're in the same room for a couple of hours with a lot of musical gear lying around, I'd say ‘Let's try something’.

Typical music fans may wait in line to buy concert tickets and hang posters of favorite bands in their dorm rooms. UW graduate student Joseph Tate, however, is taking his devotion to Radiohead to a level that most die-hard music fans will never reach: He is editing a soon-to-be-released book of academic essays titled The Music and Art of Radiohead.

I just fell in love with their music, said Tate, who is also working on his dissertation on Shakespeare. I was struck by Kid A when it came out in October of 2000.

At the time, I had never heard any type of music like it, said Tate of the band’s fourth studio album.

I was really interested in the different sounds they were using, and it got me interested in finding out more about their music, said Tate.

Tate started his own Radiohead Web site, www.pulk-pull.org. The site analyzes Radiohead’s choices of artwork and advertising, and other peculiarities of the band.

Along with becoming fascinated with the band’s music, Tate also wanted to learn more about what was behind singer Thom Yorke’s lyrics.

When I was a teenager, I was really into listening to REM and I was fascinated by Michael Stipe’s lyrics, mainly the mumbling, because you can’t really figure out what he’s saying.

The lyrics on Kid A held that same fascination for me.

One of the first postings on Tate’s Web site was regarding the cryptic lyrics Lundy, fastnet, Irishsea from the song In Limbo. He researched the words and discovered they are a reference to a British Broadcasting Channel shipping report.

Currently, Tate is working on deciphering the cryptic message in the song 2+2 = 5, whose title is a reference to George Orwell’s 1984.

After establishing the site, Tate sent out a call for academic papers on a listserv to look for other analytical fans of Radiohead.

listening to the new radiohead record which is, of course, quite good.
but i find myself wondering if radiohead listen to a lot of clinic or if clinic listen to a lot of radiohead?
it's safe to say that if you like clinic that you will like this new radiohead cd and that if you like radiohead that you will like clinic.
personally i think the clinic song 'distortions' is one of the nicest songs to have been made in the last few years.
up there with 'utopia' by goldfrapp and 'do you realize?' by the flaming lips.
music has been good for the last few years. it's just that, as usual, the good music goes largely unheard.

The most successful Radiohead website in the world, At Ease, is facing closure, after becoming a victim of its own success.

Established in 1997, www.ateaseweb.com has earned a reputation as a source of Radiohead information so accurate the band themselves regularly visit to find out what they’re up to.

However, since the leak of Hail To The Thief earlier this year, fans have been coming in their hundreds of thousands. Founder Adriaan Pels maintains the site from his Dutch home but now can’t afford to keep it going on his own.

The site has been very busy for years now, but since March the number of visitors went through the roof and never dropped, he told NME. I can't afford it any more.
