Radiohead
Several short television spots are cut together here. In Japan the band have seen a hotel and an airport, having been told about everywhere else they are not going to visit. On their first North American trip a revolving stage in Toronto meant that looking down for five seconds left them looking up somewhere else entirely.
Coming off the tour bus in Boston after a show, Colin Greenwood had two girls rush towards him. He took it for fame arriving at last. They asked whether he was the driver, and then whether he could get them the band's autographs.
On the record they were making, they had tracked 10 or 12 songs and were going back in July for four weeks split between Oxford and Abbey Road. Recording is the traumatic part, they say, because live a band can get away with murder and tape does not allow it.
The first American tour was a joke none of them took seriously, the second was played under real strain, and what saved them, they think, is knowing each other well enough to put up with everybody taking turns to fall apart.
