Playing live came first for Radiohead, the one chance in the day to forget everything, and one of them thinks they still do that.

A short clip from 1995, mostly music, in which one of the band talks about playing live and making The Bends. Playing live came first, before they had recorded anything, and it was the one chance in the day to go on stage and forget about everything, and he thinks they still do that. The Bends, he says, is the best album they could make at that stage. What they found was that the best way to record is to treat everything as a performance, playing, getting drunk or having a laugh outside, with the tape rolling, the way the Beastie Boys can be heard having a good time on their records. The songs themselves are downbeat, but making the record was brilliant fun in the end, once they got past the technology.
