Radiohead on MuchMusic
The band are on live in Toronto in December 1995, on a day given over to British bands, and the audience asks the questions. The comparisons come first and the band find them funny. Queen is offered and cheerfully accepted. U2 is offered and improved upon.
A member of the audience apologises to them for their stolen equipment, then asks about the Phil Selway fan club in Japan. It has 14 members at that point, laminated cards carrying his signature, and membership numbers that start at 1,000 so it looks larger than it is. The rest of the band confirm they are all members.
Asked about the Oxford scene, they are dismissive in a good-natured way. The town is too small to hold one, there is nowhere much to play, and any band that comes out of it does so by luck. Thom Yorke says they stay because it is not London while being near enough to it, and he doubts there is much of a scene there at all.
