Ed O'Brien on Rock Werchter Festival
Eleven years together since school, he says, is what lets three guitars and their layers work on stage.
7 July 1996 · Rock Werchter Festival · Ed O'Brien
Ed O'Brien calls the Torhout and Werchter bill, the same line-up on two days, the strongest of the summer, and on the first day Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers came up to Thom Yorke to say he was a big fan. Ed's own favourites on it are Massive Attack. Ed says Radiohead played “Creep” at Werchter, because at festivals there are 18- and 24-year-olds who have never heard it played live, and they slipped in two or three new songs as well. Getting the layers of three guitars across live is tricky, he says, but eleven years together as a band, since school, means everyone knows their role.
