Someone in MuchMusic's studio audience asks about Philip Selway's fan club in Japan, and hears it has 14 members, all cousins.
1996 · source not known · Radiohead
A fan-made compilation of the band's television from 1995 and 1996, ending in a concert at the Metro in Chicago. It opens on a show called Sideshow, where Colin Greenwood takes over after Ed O'Brien has a go at German. Asked why he looks so preoccupied on stage, Colin says he is dodging Jonny's spinning guitar while Ed comes over to shout at him and Phil Selway deafens him from the other side. He is not one for putting his feet on the monitors. There is a rocker test (leather trousers, sunglasses indoors, the highest hair), a question on who would win a mud-wrestling match, the Queen or Barbara Bush, and the band polishing Duran Duran's star in Los Angeles, which people walk all over.
Then comes MuchMusic's Brit Fit day in Toronto, when the channel plays only British bands, with all five members of Radiohead in front of a studio audience. The Bends was better reviewed than Pablo Honey, one of them says, because it is a better album, and “Creep” frightened them into getting better. Tim, the tour manager who picked them up in a Transit van for their first tour, is in the audience. Nobody will say what the man in the “Just” video says. The audience asks about their stolen gear, Phil Selway's fan club in Japan (14 members so far, one of them says, all cousins, on laminated cards numbered from 1,000 to make it look bigger), and the Oxford scene, which they insist does not exist.
At the Metro they play “Lucky” and two songs they call new, “Electioneering” and “Lift”, tell off the crowd surfers, and introduce “High and Dry” as a song for people who get famous and end up at a Christmas party at KROQ, the Los Angeles radio station, talking to people who have done far too much coke.
