Mark Radcliffe and Lard ring a different member of Radiohead each morning for a week of their Radio 1 breakfast quiz, with a foot spa for the best score and a trip to see the band in Barcelona for listeners who collect the question each one sets. Jonny Greenwood goes first, up early and wearing a brace for RSI, and explains the big headphones he plays in. “My ear started bleeding at the end of the last tour, which wasn't very cool.”

Ed O'Brien, hung over in Stockholm, remembers jumping into the pit at an American show, about 10 feet down. “I couldn't get back up and I was still playing.” He can't finish a line of “My Iron Lung”. Phil Selway scores four and owns up to a Japanese fan club devoted to him alone. Colin, down with flu in a hotel near the airport in Portugal, where the band are playing warm-up shows, first says Jonny was right that his dissertation was on the American novelist Willa Cather, which puts his brother on four. Then he answers a question the others suggested, about wailing and stomping at the end of “Coke Babies” when he thought the tape had stopped. “I think I had a ponytail at the time which was equally appalling,” he says. He remembers Jonny's first single, Squeeze's “Cool for Cats” on pink vinyl, which their mother threw away over the lyrics. Thom Yorke, staring at a motorway in Portugal, admits to being an inch and a bit over 5ft 5in, which gives Ed his point, then puts the Empress Ballroom in Brighton instead of Blackpool and finishes bottom.

Three of them tie on four, so the tie-break, a week later, is guessing how many copies their singles sold. Jonny goes out on “Fake Plastic Trees”. On “Street Spirit”, Phil says 56,000 and Colin, sharing a phone with his brother from Jonny's hotel toilet, says 55,000. It sold 54,993.
