Ed O'Brien on BBC One
The band's online diaries let them keep in touch through two and a half years away making the records.
17 May 2001 · BBC One · Ed O'Brien, Phil Selway
Ed O'Brien and Phil Selway are back on Top of the Pops for Amnesiac, made in the same sessions as Kid A. By April 2000 they had 26 finished songs and argued over favourites, and “Pyramid Song” would not sit on Kid A, until one of their managers suggested two records. Praise from Michael Stipe and Bono brings expectations of stadium tours, which they never wanted. “Those fellas work so hard and we're lazy,” one of them says. The diaries they posted on their website meant that, for the first time, they could disappear for two and a half years of recording and still keep in touch.
