2002 · Channel 4 · Thom Yorke, Jonny Greenwood

Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood tell Channel 4 about the Pixies. As a school band, they travelled up to London to see the Pixies and Throwing Muses. For one of them it was the first decent gig he went to. Surfer Rosa struck one of them as “the sexiest record I'd ever heard” and the Pixies' guitarist Joey Santiago gets his sounds by how he attacks the guitar, with no gadgets. Radiohead use guitars less now, one of them says, because there are only a handful of Pixies albums to copy. The Pixies' Trompe le Monde, one of them says, has the sound of a band that hasn't given up, still looking for new things and never flailing around.
