Radiohead on BBC Radio 1
Radiohead did a track a day for Hail to the Thief at Ocean Way in Los Angeles, the studio where Sinatra and Nat King Cole recorded.

Steve Lamacq broadcasts his Radio 1 show live from Colin Greenwood's house, by the fire and the flight cases, on the day Hail to the Thief reaches the shops, with the band's launch party going on around him. Upstairs, framed, hangs a poster for one of the first gigs by On a Friday, as Radiohead were called then, at the Jericho Tavern in about 1986. One of the band says the Yellowy Blue Roof Men and the mystery group sharing the bill were the same band, which kept changing its name.
Thom Yorke's son Noah was worried the first time he saw the “There There” video, in which his father turns into a tree, but he understands now, because his father comes in in the mornings. A solo record worries Yorke, because it would be one person answering the music he likes. “The day I know how the others would respond to something is the day it's time to quit.” When they heard his demos, the others went for “Myxomatosis” first, which surprised him. Jonny Greenwood would do a film, but an album on his own, never: he is in the best band already.
Jonny and Ed O'Brien take the listeners' emails. Jonny noticed he was buying new instruments to hide how much was left in the old ones, and is taking the ondes Martenot, an electronic instrument, more seriously. The strange sound on “Go to Sleep” comes from broken software the band wrote themselves, which makes the noise and then crashes the computer. O'Brien picks “A Wolf at the Door”, first recorded in the Kid A sessions. One of them remembers the line about bringing down the government drawing a roar during “No Surprises” at the Beacon Theatre in New York the week before.
Phil Selway credits Nigel Godrich with keeping them moving after a year and a half of procrastinating over Kid A and Amnesiac. Godrich had wanted them at Ocean Way in Los Angeles for ages, a 1950s studio where Nat King Cole, Dean Martin and Sinatra recorded, and they did a track a day there for the record, too fast to overthink anything. Late in the evening Yorke plays “Sail to the Moon” on Colin's piano, which rattles.
