Thom Yorke on MuchMusic
When the band play, Yorke says, the waves of emotion come from somebody up there, not from him.
June 2003 · MuchMusic · Thom Yorke
Thom Yorke tells MuchMusic that anyone who dislikes Radiohead for the sound of his voice is welcome to; short of surgery, he can do nothing about it. The band are called Radiohead, he says, because things get beamed into them and they have no idea what is going on. “If you start feeling like you're answerable to it then you're lost,” he says of the picture people build around a band. When the band play, waves of emotion sometimes come through, and he has no idea where from: somebody up there, he says, not him. The new record began in anger but ended somewhere more beautiful, “because anger is always ugly”.
