Jonny Greenwood
Hail to the Thief has gone to number one in Ottawa, and a Canadian radio show has Jonny Greenwood on the phone with no real plan for him. He is deadpan and almost entirely unhelpful. Asked whether it is the band's best work, he says who could tell, not him. Pressed for a desert island choice, he picks Kid A on the grounds that there is a lot to listen to in it. Asked whether making records is fun, he says it is the most joyful thing a person can do, the only unguarded answer he gives.
The hosts then work the angle that the band are weird, and he parries flatly that they are well brought up young men who respect their elders. When they insist the records sound like nothing else, he tells them they seem to be taking it personally and that they are the strangest people he has spoken to.
A word-association game collapses almost at once. He does talk about his dog Louie, roughly the size of a large mouse and looking as though he has been kicked in the face.
