Thom Yorke on BBC Radio 1
Ben, the listener who loses, gets Yorke to tell the hosts they have been brilliant for the last several years.
26 March 2004 · BBC Radio 1 · Thom Yorke
Thom Yorke is the last ever mystery celebrity on a Radio 1 show coming to an end after six and a half years, feeding clues in a put-on voice to two listeners, Anthony and Ben. As a child he gargled a gallon of Michael Stipe's sputum, and his teenage band rehearsed only on Fridays. Anthony's first guess is the presenter's dad, which, the presenter admits, had been considered, and he gets there after a clue about Yorke's tall, devilishly handsome mate Edward, who has to be told to stop whispering. Ben, the loser, gets Yorke to tell the hosts they have been brilliant for the last several years.
Out of disguise, Yorke says “I'm supposed to be working doing important work in the studio”, though it is only stupid noises. Radiohead are in scratching-heads time, with absolutely no plans at all.
