Thom Yorke on Rosanna Arquette
He won't commit to anything for now, he says, because the whole business is chaos.
2004 · Rosanna Arquette · Thom Yorke
Thom Yorke tells Rosanna Arquette that Radiohead are “technically out of contract with our record company now”, and that it is a good time to go and stand in the shadows again. He is not deciding anything or going anywhere for now, because the whole business is chaos. With the last record they tried to play the game, to be normal and fit in, and “they still thought we were weird”. That annoyed him, since he thought they were making pop music; now he takes it as a compliment. Much of the music business, he says, is self-destructing and looking backwards.
A song, for him, is not three chords and meaning it. It is a run of accidents you are given, a few words or a melody out of nowhere, and “if you're not listening you won't hear them”. Some weeks he has three or four days when they come faster than he can keep track of.
