Thom Yorke on BBC Radio 1
Coming off stage at the 2006 Mercury Prize after his song at the piano, Thom Yorke tells Radio 1 what the nomination for The Eraser means.
5 September 2006 · BBC Radio 1 · Thom Yorke
Thom Yorke comes straight off stage at the 2006 Mercury Prize, where he has played a song at the piano, and talks to Radio 1. Walking on cold for television is hard, and walking off after one song is harder. The nomination for The Eraser means a lot, he says, because “there's lots of little fishies in enormous ponds flailing around, hitting each other really hard”. He is surprised by how many people are in tuxedos, and does not remember booking himself for a wedding.
Radiohead's festivals that summer were kill or cure, and turned out to be good fun; they even played “Creep” on the first night at V, unrehearsed, and none of them could remember it.
