September 2006 · Arte · Thom Yorke

The day after the Mercury Prize ceremony of 5 September 2006, Thom Yorke tells Arte's Tracks that he goes through spells when he can produce nothing. He loves melancholy melodies, even in disco, and Donna Summer's “I Feel Love” is a sad song whose melody the synthesisers cover up. “The best disco or dance music is sad.” Arte dubs him into French; the quote is our translation. The programme went out on 23 November.
