A longer cut of the conversation about The Eraser, filmed in Oxford. Thom Yorke explains that the band had stopped about two and a half years earlier because it had become boring and self-perpetuating, and that he wanted to get into a pile of material that fitted nowhere else.

He rejects both labels on offer. Solo album implies he had walked away from the band, which he had not, and the others had encouraged him not to think of it that way. Side project implies a doodle, when he and Nigel Godrich took it entirely seriously.

The picture of a man alone in a shed is not quite right either. The first sketches did come from a tiny cupboard at home and a laptop on the road, but the record was made by the sea in summer, at Godrich's London studio and at the band's.

He is candid about the early sessions, alone with technology of which only half worked, and about the fear underneath, that they would go home, lose confidence and forget the whole thing.

He credits the title to the artwork rather than the songs, to what Stanley Donwood had been drawing while they looked at German expressionism.
