Ed O'Brien on ITN News
He agrees with the government on education and licensing, and parts company with it on cutting people off.
28 October 2009 · ITN News · Ed O'Brien
Ed O'Brien tells ITN News that he and other artists agree with what the government and Peter Mandelson are saying on education and extra licensing, but disconnecting file sharers will only drive them underground to encryption, where nobody can track them; he knows of a Swiss provider selling untraceable access for about £4 a month. Meeting with Lily Allen and other artists a month earlier, they settled on three warning letters, then slowing the connection instead of cutting it. He says this is for young artists, not fat cats like him, and that they sold In Rainbows at whatever fans chose to pay because he thinks “people are basically responsible”.
