Ed O'Brien on BBC 6 Music
The last tour felt to O'Brien like In Rainbows plus the greatest hits, and the next one will lean on the two newest records.
18 October 2011 · BBC 6 Music · Ed O'Brien
Ed O'Brien tells BBC 6 Music's Sarah Jane Griffiths that The King of Limbs, like Kid A, was made in the studio with no rehearsals, so when it came out the band were left working out how to play it, and the beats meant bringing in a second drummer. It is not Radiohead being obtuse, he says, “we just made a different type of record”. The set has to stand up on its own: last time out it felt like In Rainbows plus the greatest hits, and this time it will lean on the new record and the one before it. The European shows next year will be indoors, partly to give “Andy our lighting guy a good crack of the whip”.
