Ed O'Brien on BBC 6 Music

In the early days, he says, waiting a year and a half after an album for any new song always frustrated them.

14 December 2011 · BBC 6 Music · Ed O'Brien

Ed O'Brien tells 6 Music that the new song “Staircase” was jammed for The King of Limbs and never got past a rough demo, and “The Daily Mail” has been kicking around for a while, its words written by Thom Yorke about six years ago. In the early days it always frustrated them that a year or a year and a half would pass after an album before anyone heard a new song, so new tracks in the same year as the record suit them. Next year's tour is indoors, with no festivals, because the record is precise and detailed. If rehearsing new songs goes well, by the end of the year they “might have nipped into the studio for a couple of weeks and done an EP or something”.
