2 October 2016 · BBC 6 Music · Phil Selway

Philip Selway keeps Guy Garvey's seat warm on 6 Music's Finest Hour with two hours of records, recorded before he left on tour, so he can report llamas walking past the studio window for a Blue Peter item about show-jumping llamas. Deerhoof, who opened for Radiohead in 2006, turn up on his playlists a lot. Budgie, whose Creatures chose where to record by sticking a pin in a map and landed on Hawaii, has been an influence on his drumming.

After a dEUS record he remembers a festival in Belgium where dEUS went on just before Radiohead with a bizarre, ramshackle dance troupe, all madness and somehow working, and then Radiohead went on and did “our kind of little glum bit”. All the best people, he thinks, were born in 1967, as he and King Creosote were. The Redskins opening for the Clash at Brixton Academy in the mid-80s was a great gig, and it was topped only by the Redskins running past him down the escalator at Brixton tube station with their guitar cases. Near the end of the list come Swervedriver, who first crossed his path in Oxford when they were still called Shake Appeal.
