Jonny Greenwood on Adam Buxton

Adam Buxton had been at the Royal Festival Hall a few days earlier, when the London Contemporary Orchestra played the Phantom Thread score live at a screening for the first time, and admits to being close to tears every time the main piano theme began. This short bonus episode, recorded around the film's Oscar nomination, follows two longer conversations between them.

Jonny Greenwood likes the idea that a film could arrive somewhere as two parcels, the picture and a book of music, so that local players could perform it wherever it was shown. He had imagined something modest that could be repeated, seven or eight musicians and a piano in a small cinema. The obstacle was Paul Thomas Anderson, who kept asking for bigger string sections, wonderful on a record and impossible to fit into the back of a provincial picture house.
