Nigel Godrich

Another recording of the Junun panel at the Alamo Drafthouse in Downtown Brooklyn, with Jonny Greenwood, Nigel Godrich, Shye Ben Tzur and Paul Thomas Anderson, a little longer than the other upload and with more of the question about how it all came together.

Godrich says the trip is one of the best things he has done in his life, and credits Ben Tzur as a host who kept opening doors for them.

Anderson tells the story backwards. Greenwood asked whether he wanted to go to India, he said yes, and only then asked what they would be doing. His interest grew when he was introduced to the music, and again when videos started arriving.

Godrich also explains where to record. The first idea was something vague about going out into the desert, which he had to point out was not possible. The studios nearby turned up nothing usable, some of the obvious ones having closed years earlier, and so they made a record inside a fort.
