The Smile on WFPK

Tom Skinner takes over an hour of the station's schedule, in conversation with Kyle Meredith, to play live recordings of The Smile from a year on the road, with material from both of the records they released that year. The recordings come from shows in Rome and Berlin.

Between the tracks he explains how the songs moved between stage and studio. Several had been around in some form since the band's first tour in 2022, and getting that live approach into a studio was anything but straightforward. What worked on a stage did not behave the same way in a room with microphones, so they had to rethink how they played the songs and find other ways to interpret them.

The studio versions then changed how they relearned the same songs to play live, and so it goes round.
