Paul Q. Kolderie, who produced Pablo Honey with Sean Slade, talks to a YouTube interviewer called Daniel about Radiohead and the Pixies. He and Slade first took “Creep” for a cover, because Thom Yorke introduced it as “our Scott Walker song” and they heard “a Scott Walker song”. He told Colin Greenwood that “Creep” was Al Green in the verses and the Pixies in the chorus, and walked him through the bass line. He also told Yorke one couplet was beneath him. Yorke said the song was old and finished, stormed out, and came back half an hour later with the words on the record. The clean version was a separate job for the BBC, done on a second trip to England by switching faders by hand on the one line, and the piano in the last chorus was a mixing mistake he kept.

Nobody in the band hated the song, he insists, and Jonny's noise was there from the first time he heard it, a way of kicking a wimpy verse up the backside. The Pixies got the two producers the job, because Jonny was sold the moment he heard they had worked with them, and Yorke loved Miracle Legion, whom Kolderie had recorded. The record they actually played most at the sessions was PJ Harvey's Dry. The album's title came from a Jerky Boys prank tape they kept playing, and on “Anyone Can Play Guitar” everybody recorded a part, the cook included, with Jonny playing his with the edge of a coin.

He thinks he and Slade mixed all of The Bends except “My Iron Lung” and “Street Spirit”, some of it at eight in the morning before their own sessions, and he holds nothing against John Leckie getting the job. Brian Eno's mixes for OK Computer went unused too. The last seven minutes are the uploader's own narrated history of “Creep”.
