Ed O'Brien asks unsigned bands to send Radiohead their demos

written up for the archive

Ed O'Brien wants unsigned bands, musicians and collectives to post Radiohead their new music, and his diary for 13 December 1999 gives the address: PO Box 322, Oxford OX4 1EY. The idea came out of the band's recent webcast). Acts on small independent labels are welcome. Major-label ones are not what he is after, and any genre will do, guitar bands or otherwise.

It was the last day in the studio before Christmas, and by O'Brien's account no work got done. The band talked over plans for gigs and recording next year, then sat down to Christmas dinner, eight people and four crackers.

He signs off with Christmas wishes, and tells anyone having a bad one that they are not alone. His own view of the season is that it began as a pagan festival and now serves the high street.
