Atoms for Peace release their first record, two remixes on 12-inch

Atoms for Peace released their first record on 10 August, a 12-inch on 50 Weapons, the label run by the Berlin duo Modeselektor. Neither side is a straight Atoms for Peace song. Side A is the band's remix of “Tamer Animals” by Other Lives; side B is a “Stuck Together” remix of “Other Side”, a song of their own that has never come out.

The band are Thom Yorke, Nigel Godrich, Flea of the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Joey Waronker and Mauro Refosco, and they first played together at the Echoplex in Los Angeles on 2 October 2009, performing Yorke's solo album The Eraser live, and toured the United States in 2010. Other Lives, a five-piece from Stillwater, Oklahoma, supported Radiohead on their North American dates this year, and Yorke sang on Modeselektor's 2011 album Monkeytown.

Spin likens the grooves of the “Other Side” remix, built from clicks and muted drums, to Four Tet's recent records for the dance floor. Announced on 17 July for 3 August, the record arrived a week late, with a special edition of 300 copies beside the standard pressing; Fact premiered a three-minute edit of “Other Side” on the original date. The press release that announced the 12-inch said an Atoms for Peace album was rumoured to be ready towards the end of the year.
