The Smile's Wall of Eyes goes in at number three in the UK
The Smile's second album, Wall of Eyes, enters the Official Albums Chart at number three, the best UK placing yet for Thom Yorke and Jonny Greenwood's band with the drummer Tom Skinner. Their debut, A Light for Attracting Attention, got to number five in 2022.
On Monday's midweek update Wall of Eyes, out on XL since 26 January, was top by about 200 chart units from The Reytons' Ballad of a Bystander. It would have been The Smile's first number one; Yorke and Greenwood have six with Radiohead. By Tuesday James Arthur's Bitter Sweet Love had added more than 5,000 units overnight, most of them physical copies, and led The Smile by nearly 4,000 with four days of tracking left. Arthur edged past The Reytons in the final hours for his second number-one album.
On vinyl nothing outsold Wall of Eyes all week, and it tops the Official Vinyl Albums Chart.
