Bitter-Sweet
The third Roxy Music song from the Velvet Goldmine sessions.
1974
country life
Bryan Ferry and Andy Mackay wrote it for Country Life: a song that keeps stopping to sing a verse in German, over a cabaret arrangement that turns military halfway through.
1998
the venus in furs
Like “2HB” and “Ladytron”, it was recorded for Todd Haynes's Velvet Goldmine by the Venus in Furs, the assembled band that included Bernard Butler, Andy Mackay himself, Jonny Greenwood and Thom Yorke. That makes three Roxy Music songs recorded by two members of Radiohead in one week in 1998, for a film about a version of glam rock that never existed.
It is not a Radiohead recording.
