one of two new songs
Radiohead went into their 2012 tour with more than 75 songs prepared, David Fricke wrote in Rolling Stone. On the first night, at the American Airlines Arena in Miami on 27 February, they debuted two new ones, “Identikit” and this. “Cut a Hole” was in the first encore, between “Bodysnatchers” and “Weird Fishes/Arpeggi”, in a slot where the written setlist had “Skirting on the Surface” as the alternative.
It is slow and builds by degrees. Clive Deamer, the second drummer on that tour, moved to piano for it, and John Hood, reviewing the night for the Guardian, noticed Thom Yorke reading the words as he sang, which he put down to how new the song was.

Five days later, at the Toyota Center in Houston on 3 March, it was in the main set, straight after “Codex”. The song has never been released.
