Colin Greenwood on BBC Radio 4
On the first night of Radio Rewrite, Colin Greenwood thought of new chord extensions for basslines on “Jigsaw Falling into Place”.
6 March 2013 · BBC Radio 4 · Colin Greenwood
The day after Steve Reich's Radio Rewrite had its premiere at the Royal Festival Hall, Colin Greenwood hears the piece, built on two Radiohead songs, on Radio 4. He knows the chord shapes and cadences like a quiz-show tune, hearing “Everything in Its Right Place” in the slower movements and “Jigsaw Falling into Place” in the fast one. “It's more than a cover, that's what I love about music, when it becomes a gift,” he says, something passed on that isn't yours any more. Listening to it on the night of the premiere, he found himself thinking of new chord shapes and chord extensions for basslines on “Jigsaw Falling into Place”, though mostly he was just enjoying it.
