Colin Greenwood on BBC 6 Music
Touring Britain out of the back of a rusty white van gave him a whole day to explore every town they played.
25 January 2017 · BBC 6 Music · Colin Greenwood
Colin Greenwood remembers being Independent Venue Week's Oxford ambassador in 2014, with a show at the Jericho Tavern, where Radiohead played their first gig, and Glass Animals headlining. Without rooms like that and the Oxford Co-op Hall, he says, “we wouldn't have got anywhere”. Rehearsing for this year's tour, he wonders whether some songs would suit a dry little club better than a stage in front of 60,000. What he loved about touring Britain out of the back of a rusty white van was having a whole day to explore each town they played. He once saw Buffalo Tom, recorded by the friends who recorded “Creep”, at the Old Trout in Windsor.
