Radiohead's fan club mails out the Bercy date and the tour film
Issue 16 of W.A.S.T.E., Radiohead's mail-order and fan club, tells members that the band play a concert for Amnesty International at Bercy in Paris on 10 December, and that Grant Gee's tour film Meeting People Is Easy is out on video on 30 November. The band's own letters are being saved for issue 17 in the New Year.
The Bercy concert), held by Amnesty and The Body Shop for the 50th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, is the band's first European gig of the year, and the newsletter calls it the biggest human rights concert in a decade. Tickets go on sale at the Bercy box office on 7 October.
Gee, who made the “No Surprises” video, spent a year on and off with the band, and his film has performances from Barcelona, Paris, New York and Tokyo as well as the beginnings of new material. W.A.S.T.E. sells it on PAL VHS only at first, and fans in the Americas, Japan and other NTSC countries wait until the New Year. Before it comes out there is a London premiere, and the fan club has 50 pairs of tickets to give away.
Stanley Donwood, who does all the Radiohead and W.A.S.T.E. artwork with The White Chocolate Farm, adds a postscript warning that the band's website is about to change a lot, maybe completely.
We've done lots already and we're going to hide in a remote shack on a windswept mountain until www.radiohead.com is ready.

He apologises that the site is updated so rarely, and asks fans to send in addresses of anything interesting online for a links page that might be easy to find, not too easy though

The fan club's four staff read all the band's mail but cannot answer every letter. They thank fan projects by name, the Planet Telex website and Cathryn Ellis's Headcase fanzine among them. Mel, who signs the staff letter, says plans for work on the new album are under way.
The band had a well-deserved break following the last year of touring and will be back in the studio very shortly.
