PJ Harvey's new album has Thom Yorke on three songs

written up for the archive

Thom Yorke sings a duet with PJ Harvey on “This Mess We're In”, from her fifth album, Stories From the City, Stories From the Sea, which Island release on Monday 23 October. He also sings on “One Line” and “Beautiful Feeling”.

Harvey told the Buenos Aires paper Página/12 that Yorke was in the studio for only a couple of days, but that he is an exceptional musician and gave her strange and wonderful ideas for the songs. She learned a lot from him, she said, and found him an inspiration.

Harvey produced the record with Rob Ellis and Mick Harvey, of Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, at Linford Manor in Milton Keynes in March and April.

Previewing the album in the paper's No supplement, Mariana Enriquez finds the Yorke songs are the ones being promoted hardest. She calls “This Mess We're In” a mid-tempo electric ballad, with Yorke singing in a way he rarely allows himself in Radiohead now.
