Thom Yorke's Christmas email to fans calls for a world court

written up for the archive

Thom Yorke has sent fans a Christmas message by email through W.A.S.T.E., which NME calls an official Radiohead subsidiary, and much of it is about the world since the attacks on New York and Washington on 11 September. NME, which printed parts of it, picked out his call for a world court and his view of the American president, George Bush.

Violence breeds violence. We need a world court not a Republican with his hands covered in oil and military hardware lecturing us on world security.

He asks for love, understanding and tolerance, and for laws that bind everyone alike, enforced by people fit to judge. He also turns to the subscribers, thanking them for still listening, for sticking with the band and for making sense of its records.

Praying for world peace is not such an embarrassing thing to do anymore I think, especially not this Christmas.

He ends by hoping their Christmas is peaceful, loving and spiritual. Does that sound silly? Don't care.1

archivist’s note

NME printed passages from the email, not the whole of it.
