Radiohead's Merce Cunningham score heads for the Barbican in 2004

Split Sides, the Merce Cunningham Dance Company piece with music by Radiohead and Sigur Rós, is coming to the Barbican in London in October 2004. The Barbican co-commissioned it. Each band wrote its own score, and both played them live at the premiere at the Brooklyn Academy of Music on 14 October; the rest of the Brooklyn run used recordings.

Louise Jefferys, the Barbican's head of theatre, says a live Radiohead would bring a big new audience to dance. It is a unique collaboration, which will attract a diverse audience.²

A Radiohead spokesperson tells NME the band probably won't play in London, and that the Barbican performances will use a remix of the music recorded in New York. The Sun says the band hope to play, and that Thom Yorke, who admires Cunningham's work, agreed at once when they were approached.
