written up for the archive

Radiohead's “There There” has gone into the UK singles chart at number four in the chart announced today, with R Kelly's “Ignition” still at number one. A band spokesperson named it as the first single from the sixth album on 18 March, before the record had a title; Hail to the Thief followed six days later and is out on Parlophone on 9 June.

The single came out on 26 May on CD and 12-inch, and both formats carry two new songs after the title track, “Paperbag Writer” and then “Where Bluebirds Fly”. Neither is on the album. According to reports at the time, both turned up on the internet around 19 May, a week before release.
