The Jericho Tavern, where Radiohead played their first gig, is restored

first posted on Treefingers by Miro · rewritten for the archive

Oxford's Jericho Tavern is back as the city's indie venue. After a decade as a theme pub, it stopped trading under the It's a Scream name on 27 April and has been restored.

Radiohead, then called On a Friday, made their debut there in 1986, and in 1991 record company A&R scouts gathered at the same pub to see them. Supergrass were signed to Parlophone after a gig there in 1994, and Ride signed to Creation after playing there in the early 1990s.

The upstairs room at 56 Walton Street, where local bands have long played, now has a large hand-painted mural of Radiohead, Supergrass and John Peel.
