Phoenix FM listeners vote “Paranoid Android” their Radiohead number one

“Paranoid Android” is the Radiohead song Phoenix FM's listeners like best, by a distance. The community station for Brentwood and Billericay in Essex counted down a listener-voted Radiohead top 20 on Saturday 21 May, presented by Eddie Curry from 8pm and streamed live on its website. According to the station's results page, “Paranoid Android” won with 9,342 points, more than 3,500 ahead of “Idioteque” in second. “Creep” came 21st, just outside the chart, with 1,928.
Voting opened on the station's site in March. Listeners ranked their ten favourites from a list of more than 100 songs, ten points for a first choice down to one for a tenth, and 2,273 of them voted. Besides the countdown, the show went through listeners' own favourite charts. More people tried to listen online than the stream could hold, and Phoenix FM has promised to repeat it.
The poll ran in association with At Ease, and the station thanked two more fan sites, Climbing Up The Walls, a Japanese site for Radiohead and Colin Greenwood, and this one. Of the 113 songs in the full results, “Treefingers” came 101st, with 43 points.
