Vernon Reid covers “The National Anthem” on his next record

Vernon Reid, formerly of Living Colour, has recorded “The National Anthem” for Other True Self, his second album with his band Masque and his third outside Living Colour, which he still calls his “mothership”. It is due from Steve Vai's label, Favored Nations, on 18 April.

The record also covers The Tony Williams Lifetime's “Wild Life” and Depeche Mode's “Enjoy the Silence”, alongside Reid's own songs and some by Masque members Leon Gruenbaum and Don McKenzie. Reid credits the band's chemistry, and Gruenbaum in particular. Leon, for example, pushes me because he's such a phenomenal musician.¹
