Philip Selway announces his second solo album, Weatherhouse

Philip Selway has announced Weatherhouse, his second solo album, for 6 October on Bella Union, with the American release a day later. Its opening track, “Coming Up For Air”, is out now on his SoundCloud. He says it is about taking stock of his life, meant to carry a feeling of release and affirmation. NME has his statement on the album.

This was the first song that we recorded. Immediately it felt in a very different space from 'Familial'.

Familial, his first album, came out in 2010. Adem Ilhan, known from Fridge and from his own records as Adem, and Quinta, the multi-instrumentalist Katherine Mann, had both played in Selway's touring band. Rock NYC has the three of them recording Weatherhouse between late January 2013 and late January 2014.

From the outset we wanted the album to be the three of us, and we covered a lot of instruments between us.

Working the gear and the desk together made them feel like a band, he says, and playing with new people stretched him in a way he enjoyed.
