Philip Selway was not sure he wanted to play the drums on Weatherhouse, his second solo album, until its producer, Adem Ilhan, pushed him to. He is glad he did, he tells Sam D'Arcangelo in a short interview for Relix. On Familial, his first album in 2010, he could not hear drum parts for the songs at all, and Wilco's Glenn Kotche played them.

On Radiohead's 2012 tour, Clive Deamer played beside him as a second drummer.

That started to reignite my passion for drumming. I just found it very liberating.

The two records were made differently. Familial grew around a singing voice he was still finding. Weatherhouse began from guide tracks, and many of the songs were filled out at the kit, with the themes already chosen, which took it somewhere darker.

Familial is more of a gentle record. This one is far more strident.

Radiohead have confirmed they are going back into the studio to follow The King of Limbs. I guess I'll try to bring the spirit of how I felt in those sessions to my drumming1, he says of the next record.
