Radiohead give away “Spectre”, the Bond song the film didn't use

Radiohead have put “Spectre” on their SoundCloud page on Christmas Day, free to stream or download. It is the song they wrote for the new Bond film of the same name, which opened in October with Sam Smith's “Writing's on the Wall” as its theme instead. Theirs is slow and orchestral, and Dancing Astronaut heard Thom Yorke in falsetto over piano and strings. It is their first new song since “The Daily Mail” and “Staircase” in December 2011.

Yorke announced it on Twitter that morning, in three posts with a link to the song. Last year we were asked to write a tune for Bond movie Spectre. Yes we were³

In July, with talk going round that Radiohead had the job, a bookmaker stopped taking bets on who had recorded the theme after one customer tried to stake £15,000 on them.

It didn't work out ... but became something of our own which we love very much
