Ultraísta, the trio of Laura Bettinson, Joey Waronker and Nigel Godrich, released “Tin King” on 14 January with a video they directed themselves, Bettinson walking the streets of London under a strobe. The song opens Sister, their second album, due on Partisan on 13 March. Their first, Ultraísta, came out in 2012.

Bettinson sings and Waronker plays drums and much else; like Godrich, he is in Atoms for Peace with Thom Yorke. Sister grew out of jam sessions in London and Los Angeles, and Godrich's press statement describes how slowly those turn into songs. Three days of jamming can create two years of work. It's like building a spaceship out of matchsticks.1

He says the first album was hardly meant to be musical at all, grooves taken from Dada towards a kind of modernist manifesto, and that this time they wanted more than an art piece.
