Radiohead's “Creep” video passes a billion YouTube views

written up for the archive

The video for “Creep” has passed one billion views on YouTube, the first Radiohead video to get there, Billboard reports. That puts it in what YouTube calls its Billion Views Club, almost 16 years after it went up on 18 July 2008. The clip, directed by Brett Turnbull and filmed at the Venue in Oxford, is just the five of them playing the song on a dimly lit stage.

“Creep” first came out in September 1992 and got no higher than number 78 at home. It caught on in Israel and on American alternative radio. In America it climbed to number 34 on the Hot 100 and number two on the alternative radio chart, and the reissue of September 1993 took it to number seven in Britain.
