Down by the River
Nine minutes of Neil Young written in a fever, attached to this catalogue by fan cover lists.
1969
everybody knows this is nowhere
Young wrote it at home in Topanga with a high fever, in the same few days that produced “Cinnamon Girl” and “Cowgirl in the Sand”. With Crazy Horse behind him it became the template for the long, distorted, two-note guitar solo, and for a good deal of what came after.
the claim
no performance on record
Radiohead's connection to it is real in kind, since they have gone back to Young repeatedly, and unverified in this instance: the site's setlist archive holds no performance of this song, and no studio recording exists. It is listed here as a cover attributed by fan sources rather than a documented one.
