MK 1

In 2009 the band let a homelessness charity in America have it free for a short film.

the way in

It opens the second disc of In Rainbows on the same piano chords as “Videotape”, which closes the first. Over them go distorted keystrokes, looping textures and wordless vocals from Thom Yorke, and after 63 seconds it runs straight into “Down Is the New Up”.

Putting the album's ending at the start of the extra disc is the neatest joke on either disc. Peter Paphides, reviewing the discbox for Uncut, heard it pick up on the piano note the album ends on, and took that as a sign that the second disc carries the album on rather than sweeping up after it.

2009

it can happen to anyone

The band cleared it free of charge for “It Can Happen to Anyone”, a short film by the National Coalition for the Homeless in America, because they thought the cause worth it. The film was out in January 2009, a few weeks before they gave “Videotape” to Shelter in Britain.
