Radiohead send out their first newsletter, with a new single and tour

written up for the archive

Radiohead have written and posted their first newsletter to fans, from PO Box 322 in Oxford, and its news is a new single. The letter opens by marking 1993 as the centenary of the first telephone conversation, and carries the joke through. Anyway, we're doing it ourselves and we don't even reverse the charges.1

“Pop Is Dead” is just recorded and out on 10 May on Parlophone, in all formats, with an acoustic version of another new song and two live tracks. It is not on Pablo Honey; the band ask fans to take it as a taste of things to come.

A tour goes with it, 12 dates so far with Strangelove in support, and the band are booked for the Phoenix Festival on 16 July.

The band count a first headline tour, a first chart entry and a first TV appearance so far this year, and put all three down to the people who came to the shows and bought the records. It makes us feel wanted and, at last, we've got something to talk about.1
