Radiohead give War Child's Help album a new song, “Lucky”
Help, War Child's album for children caught up in the war in Bosnia, is out today, and Radiohead's track on it is a new song, “Lucky”. Every act on the album recorded on the same day, Monday 4 September, in several studios, and Radiohead made theirs with Nigel Godrich producing.
Brian Eno asked Radiohead for a track in the summer, while they were touring The Bends, and they gave him a song of their own rather than a cover. Alongside Radiohead are Oasis, Blur and the Smokin' Mojo Filters, a one-off band of Paul Weller, Paul McCartney and Noel Gallagher.
“Lucky” has been in the band's set, acoustic at first, since at least late July in London, Ontario. Its scraping guitar sound comes from Ed O'Brien, who found it at a soundcheck in Japan by picking the strings above the nut, on the headstock.
