Radiohead go back to Denver ready to play “Creep” on request

written up for the archive

Radiohead play the Ogden Theatre in Denver on Monday 1 April, with David Gray in support, and Ed O'Brien tells Westword that anyone who wants “Creep” is welcome to ask for it. The song was a burden for a while; now the band enjoy playing it again. Phil Selway puts the change down to who is coming. With no big single this time, the audience is fans who know the whole catalogue.

The Bends has definitely put 'Creep' in its place.

Their last Denver date, opening for Soul Asylum on 4 October 1995, went wrong soon after they arrived, when their equipment truck was stolen. They played an improvised acoustic set on borrowed guitars. Appeals went out on the Denver station 92X, with Thom Yorke taking part, but nobody has been charged and the gear has never been found.

O'Brien says the band have no revenge in mind. They want to play Denver a proper show, and to make up for the high ticket prices last time.
